She got paid for this?

Wow. WJW.

Etsy pays their employees to…what? Copy and paste the forum responses of Etsy members and call it an article.

Yeah.

Now granted, having a blog is a wonderful way to market yourself and let your customers know about you, your process, and your items; and we quote folks, too. But the entire article is cut and paste from the forums. She couldn’t even summarize the main points? Her own interjections occur at a minimum, yet she is part of the Dorque and labs staff, blogging and knowing what’s going on in the crafting community is what she’s paid to do!

Etsy, you’re wasting your money on many of your employees, it’s so obvious that they don’t know a damn thing about what they spew.

Oh and if you’re interested in showcasing Etsy members and their blogs, why not take a look at the Blogging street team?! Maybe just a link so other Etsians can garner support? But I guess that would take some sort of initiative on the author’s part to actually find that information. Or maybe ask them to write an article on blogging since it’s what they do. But that would mean the author knows that other parts of Etsy exist and what they work on. Oh wait, but she should, because the Dorque featured the street team in August! That would have been a good time to feature a piece on blogging. Dontcha think?!

I swear, at Etsy the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand does or what the mouth says or what the brain thinks or where the legs are going.

Etsy, one big flailing mess. And they’re hitting their customers square in the face.

Want A Job? Etsy Needs An Intern!

Then the Dorque needs YOU! Yes any college or post-graduate student willing to be suckered into - er, umm - take on the challenge of being the Dorque's Blog Copy Editor/Viral Distributor.

Yep, you could be in charge of editing articles ranging from fashion trends (cupcakes are IN!!!!) to Tech updates (new DAM category!!!). As it stands right now the Dorque covers such a broad range of information that the usefull important stuff gets buried under crap like "Quit Your Day Job, Go On Unemployment, and Live in Your Parent's Basement!!!!"

Minimum Qualifications (with some minor modifications from the Bitches in itallics)

* Experience in online or print editorial, copy-editing, writing, researching and reporting (preferably fashion, culture) Experience which involves actual college courses in writing might help

* Experience with photo editing (for print, film, stock photos, etc)

* Photoshop We think they want you to be able to edit those photos in Photoshop, though they are a bit cryptic here.

* Basic html, blogging software knowledge

* Strong communication skills in dealing with customers, online communities, interview subjects, as well as coworkers

* Ability to tolerate socially-challenged co-workers *coughcoughcoughdanilexocoughcoughcough* a plus!

* Merchandising or styling experience (great taste a plus!) Of course what you consider to be great taste and what they consider to be Indie and kewl might be two totally different things.

* Self-motivated (show up to work on time, mmmkay??)

* Detail-oriented in doing the best job possible (A fundamental grasp of the english language and B.A.S.I.C. grammar skills are a plus!)

* Passionate about blogging and new media content The ability to sustain your passion after the glow of your new job wears off is a plus!

* Career goals at the intersection of editorial, new media, online communities, art and subcultures Having any kind of career goals is a great plus!

* Adaptable to a crazy start-up environment (translation: ability to tolerate a ton of unbelievable, unprofessional bullshit a plus!)

* A curious mind (especially in regards to DIY, fashion, entrepreneurship; and other publications) Have enough imagination to actually explore new innovative sites rather than looking outside your window to see what all the kewl hipsters are wearing is a definite plus!

Etsy finally admits that The Storque is not News

I am currently vastly amused by this thread on the Etsy Forums. In response to a seller's original post, "Why does the NEWS link now say BLOG? -- Is it just me?"

Admin marymary replies, complete with hugs and kisses:

"That's right and it's not just you, so glad you noticed!

We changed the word "news" to "blog" in the main navigation bar to create less confusion over all the wonderful things the Storque has to offer.

The Storque is not just site news, and includes several articles that read more like a blog. No fear though, it's just the word that has changed and we will still point you in the direction of the Storque when looking for site news and important techupdates.

xoxo"

Oddly enough, marymary doesn't link to The Storque article on the change. There Head Storquette Vanessa admits, ""News" seemed misleading because the Storque is a whole lot more than site news. "Storque" is perhaps too mysterious for newbie readers".

My week has been made. Etsy has publicly admitted what most of us have realized ever since The Storque was launched as a replacement for the EtsyBlog: The Storque is not news (and, furthermore, it's a really, really dumb name, spelt in a meaninglessly obscure way.)

But perhaps the term "Blog" isn't clear enough, Etsy. The Bitches have some suggestions for straplines, in case you decide to further clarify the actual function of The Storque:

"Self-serving free promos for those 25 stores we like best and promote 24/7 because they are related to us."

"Underscoring the pointlessness of podcasting since 2007".

"We Blog Because We Have Nothing Better To Do, Love, Etsy."
