Quotables: Strange Love

Noticed

I'm noticing a strange unconditional love for Etsy in the Forums, like Etsy is a member of your family. Etsy is a place for business, not your drunk, but well meaning, and still quite stylish Aunt.

If something isn't working it should be fixed.

If you were quoted, congratulations and thanks! You can find your

The forum title of that thread is laughable.

You'd think that Etsy were paying us to advertise for them.

The only thing I'm responsible for is listing my items and taking care of my buyers when I make sales.

P.S. Most of the time the people who post those types of threads have been selling at Etsy less than three months and their shop is so shiny and new that they're feeling the strange love. Give 'em six months.

This is awesome. Great find!

when i joined etsy there was a great vibe among sellers to get the word out and in the most part it seemed very worthwhile - it's a shame that great feeling was well and truly squandered by etsy. there is no way that etsy appears on anything other than old business material for me now, and usually it's hidden under a sticker.

All I know, is that all of these rah-rah Etsy threads are pretty funny to read back when the same OPs start to all of a sudden post bitchy threads complaining about Etsy..

The OP has been on Etsy less than 2 months. Painted rocks? Cute, maybe, but WTF?

How can I seriously try to bring customers to Etsy for quality artisan work when what they'll find is shrinky dinks and painted rocks?

Maybe I should just open up a shop selling cupcakes made in my Easy-Bake Oven.

Stick a toothpick in me - I'm done.

...and what about google search? If you are trying to pull in customers outside of Etsy, it's not working anymore.
I guess if you have lower priced items that the sellers can afford, fine. It's looling more are more like incest.

Wait to see how much love is gushing when Etsy does this major migration to new servers at the end of October.

Should we start taking bets on how long Etsy will be down? And when it's back up, how many breaks and tears will there be?

A hammock-full?

For those who were around 2 years ago when Etsy did a lot of fiddling for most of November, and completely ruined the holiday sales weeks (which are few) and last year when the Guides were foisted on sellers with no explanation, and the views broke no less than 6 times (again with no explanation) then we are in for more of the same.

I aked a couple of friends who work for large online retail sites, and they said, to do major site maintenance from Sept to Dec is completely unheard of. They all do their major site improvements during June and July.

It's useless to talk to newbies who are on their honey moon trip.
I honestly don't know why I should have to love a venue.
I didn't love Ebay (maybe at its very beginning) when I sold on there. I used it. And complained about it when their services didn't work.
Etsy is no different for me. I abide by the rules, pay my fees and I want the servers and customer service to work for me. If that doesn't happen, well, then I complain.
What 's love got to do with it? (yeah Tina turner)

I am betting that etsy has no choice of when they can move to the new servers. The old ones seem to be on their last legs.

Should be interesting, to say the least.

I love the newbies who bitch about all the complaining on the forums. About how great Etsy is, how we have the forums, how organized the shops are, how great such-and-such benefit is.

If it weren't for sellers complaining, they wouldn't have HALF of the seller tools they enjoy now, and attempt to use against those complaining as "proof of Etsy doing good".

Etsy is more like the abusive husband that keeps promising to get therapy and "work on it". Etsy brings you flowers when you least expect it (fancy widgets), but refuses to take out the trash when you ask.

Right now, I'm seeing other websites on the side, and getting my finances in order so that I can file for divorce. A girl can only take so much.

If all else fails, and you can't think of anything else to say, just rag on whatever the OP sells.

Best comment. Ever.

Some of the cheerleading is over the top.

Like the seller who said she loves loves loves Etsy and is NEVER leaving.

And doesn't have a business licence and isn't sure how to get one.

She has 1800 sales, btw.

Not calling out, just pointing out that some people are demented. :-D

This is one of my favorite quotes, thanks for selecting it. "Still stylish aunt" -- classic.

i like that. One of my very first posts was about Etsy needing to inform us of issues and problems on the FP not in the forums where most sellers dont even go. I was jumped all over for this told I was not being professional etc... i was like, get over it. Etsy is not your baby mama okay? haha:)
