Hello all!
We spoke with Rob Kalin tonight for 1 hour and 45 minutes. It was a good talk, and he listened and answered questions for us.
We hope to have something for you to peruse in the next few days about the chat. Please understand that the file is 1 hour and 45 minutes with a lot of side chatter. We're working on this between our real jobs, so please be patient.

Waiting with baited breath. Hope he didn't try to show off all his literary education, give you rusted bicycle metaphors, or toss shit off his head like the forum "interview".
I couldn't take another one like that.
He has got to show some respect. There are sellers on Etsy that have more smarts, experience, and education than he does and we cannot be condescended to any longer. You have to give respect before you deserve it; we are his customers and therefore he gets to be respectful FIRST.
I hope it's better than the mess her caused in the forums yesterday with his "Questions #4"
That was kind of nuts the whole Odysseus metaphor....WTF
And not that I have ANY love for the forums, but what is that all about? What if you've never been accepted to an Etsy Street team.
Is Rob on peyote?
Maybe Etsy will go down in a fiery ball of flames....
Oh, I can't wait. After reading his faux interview and the subsequent threads about it, I can hardly wait to see what slight of hand he played with you.
I just can't muster up any excitement for anything he says, might say or does.
*waiting with benign interest*
I'm surprised he spoke to you at all. I figured he'd become "unavailable" after the sock puppet debacles.
I don't know if anyone will get a decent interview without rainbows being blown up your ass.
Rob is, plain and simple, a weird-o. I don't buy this scatterbrained genius crapola- odd, strange, cookoo, weird, that's more like it.
What REALLY pisses me off is his asking for what we want. There are literally thousands of forum threads that say what we as sellers want.
This forum listing b/s in the admin section by Rob is, sorry to say, the beginning of some very, very pissed off people when what he says will happen doesn't. There are people that live to call out Etsy on their fubared timeline and get people all riled up about it.
A few hour a day phone support? Are you insane Rob? That is not going to work at all.
I can't go on, too pissed right now.
Can't wait to read it!
I sincerely hope he's more communicative than Admin in the forum. This Announcement thread:
http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6402419
for example says nothing whatsoever, except "we're trying things!" and links to a 7 month old Dorque article as if it's new information.
Although, it was new in some aspects, in that I learned that the Voter is 1 1/2 years old, and it was only noticeable 7 months ago with her first (now repeated) post.
I'm hoping he's offering up more than 7 month old threads and 1 1/2 year old failed promos to convince us to continue investing in his company.
He's got us by the short hairs and knows it, so he might just as well lay it on the focking line.
is he cloudcukooland or was questions #4 just a bad idea?
inquiring minds want to know
kumbaya, let's all sit a circle and a happy non-corporate community
That is what Rob's idea of business sounds like
Message to Rokali: Etsy has outwaited me. There is no longer any trust, any integrity, or any reason to give a shit.
In fact, I do not want anyone whose opinion I respect to know I have a shop on Etsy. It's humiliated to be associated with it:
Because my items are FINE and my customers keep coming, I have no choice but to stay there, but I will never advertise that I am.
I do not like the company Etsy keeps, and I don't like the people it hires.
Etsy speaks with forked tongue.
I don 't want to hear ONE MORE WORD; I want action.
Put your money where your mouth is, or just shut the fuck up.
come on, etsy bitches, get on with it — it's been two days — lay the interview on us.
you're killing me here, this is worse than Christmas as a five year old...
I now feel giddy & desperately impatient.
I know I appear to be in the minority here, but I enjoyed question #4 and Rob's responses; it made me EXCITED about his return, and I am really optimistic about how his interview with EB went and can't wait for it! (Come on bitches, when's it gonna be?) While you may not agree with what Rob has to say, I think his passion for Etsy and his love of handmade still shine through. And if he's reading this, I want him to know that there are others like me: who remain somewhat quiet while others are far more vocal about their disatisfaction-people who realize while Etsy is not perfect it is still an amazing thing you created, and we are thankful it exists. I am glad you're back Rob and I can't wait to see what you do!!
any day now.....cmon etsy biatches! i cant wait. :-)
I can wait.
the cranky one indeed. why the teaser post a FEW DAYS ago then?
We did because everyone was asking when it was happening.
its almost a 2 hour interview, it can take 6-8 that long to transcribe, it takes time to find that time.
anyone a professional transcriptionist?
Rob is very good and telling his audience what they want to hear. See: etsy forums. Then he just walks away.
See: Front page and etsy finds filled with resellers. Every day.
See: Teen Twitter
See: What is it you think is going to change? Etsy is like his giant yoyo, we are on a great big string.
I'm a professional transcriptionist :)
theeye: I love you
Waiting...but I also wonder if EB has to find a "hipster dufus" to translate what exactly Rob was saying in his interview...
Quoting Painted Bull...

If you are looking for a translator, you don't want a regular "hipster doofus" so much as a bilingual one, or a non-one who is schooled in the lingo.
Personally, I have no interest in reading what the man said, since I know it will just piss me off, and as I noted in a previous post, I am not that much of a masochist.
RR
I'm of two minds about this... On the one hand it's interesting to see how he answered our questions but then on the other hand, I'm afraid that he'll have just spouted some nonsense and not given any real answers at all.
I hope you can slog through the conversation soon, it'll be interesting to see how it went.
Speaking with him certainly has not changed the favoritism that characterizes the front page. I see that "allencompany" -- which anyone would think is the ONLY vintage seller on Etsy -- is on the front page again right now.
Looking forward to the interview. It's been over 2 weeks now
how about a summary of the conversation or a quick word about whether or not it was informative? Something to pacify us until you get it posted!
