Tidbits to scowl at

A source that recently visited Brooklyn told us that Maria actually lives in D.C. and "commutes" to Etsy. Ok, now we know why the lunatics are still running the asylum, noone's there supervising them!

We also got this rant from an Aux about the featured seller and Dorque Success stories:

I am about to pop a vein. I normally don't complain about things that Etsy admin does, but this one is seriously f'ed up. The current featured seller (Ahpeele) was already written up as a "success" in the Storque! Why? Why? Why? 6 MONTHS AGO, they were already a "success"

And then there's this:
Good ole Rob Kalin is going to Switzerland to represent Etsy and share the love and community with the world *GAG*

We are very excited to have the chance to talk to world leaders about independent entrepreneurship and how the internet can have a supporting role. In the run-up to the meeting, the WEF invited each nominee to answer the same questions about their businesses and the roles they play in socially conscious economic development.

Socially conscious? Etsy??

The World Economic Forum:
We are striving towards a world-class corporate governance system where values are as important a basis as rules. Our motto is ‘entrepreneurship in the global public interest’. We believe that economic progress without social development is not sustainable, while social development without economic progress is not feasible

...but, but, but...they invited ETSY!!!!!! Someone needs to clue the Swiss in. They've obviously never visited Etsy's 'community' via the forums.

Well ETSY Bitch, I have a challenge for you. Recently there have been more and more posts about the same sellers appearing over and over again on the front page. I don't begrudge any of them the publicity they get or the good opportunity.

However, I do question ETSY Admin's motives sometimes (if not frequently).

One particular shop - GetReadySetGo -- in the last two months, has had at least one item on the FP every day. EVERY DAY. Their image has also been used (with their name) in the new ETSY header on the FP. They are also featured in multiple gift guides.

No other seller seems to get this promotion by ETSY Admin. WTF??

Call me skeptical, but I find it difficult to believe that there are so few sellers on ETSY who have nicely photographed items that Admin just have to promote this store. Again. And again. And again.

Challenge? Why is this store getting the lion's share of Admin's attention?

I don't know *why* but GetReady is also AroundNBrightlyWound and (undisclosed in both accounts) Kella. Friend of ThePeachTree and Xenotees - both familiar FP names.

Don't know if these names mean anything to anyone with more etsy experience or bettter detective skills?

Do we know where these sellers live or hail from? That could provide a tremendous clue...I'd go look but I prefer not to visit Etsy.com anymore than is absolutely necessary these days to replenish my soap and yarnie needs.

Pfft. I'm surprised Rob even knows there's a world outside of NY. Etsy ignores the needs of the international members so regularly, what can he possibly add to the WEF? Could there be a more internationally unfriendly site?

If GetReadySetGo is also Kella (Kella MacPhee Photography), then she's actually located in Brooklyn - and NOT Florida as her GetReadySetGo profile says.

Hmmm...an ETSY seller located in Brooklyn who constantly gets featured on the front page...

The Boss "commutes" from DC? How often? and who is REALLY running the shop day to day?
The vision becomes clearer, and more chaotic at the same time.

FYI I keep my own stats about who has been on the front page. There are two sellers that each have appeared over 40 timrs since 11/1.

And, about Maria. If your real job is to hire key managers to run etsy, a/k/a Chad for Tech. Bek for marketing and someone whose name I don't know for international sales in '09 you can live anywhere you want. I thought most people knew she lived in DC and got a watered down version of what was going on from the admins at play.

Come on, her job is to get etsy ready for a takeover or sale. Just let it happen soon, please.

Actually I am quite pleased to see Etsy featuring some of their "already successful" sellers this time of year - at least you know their stores will be able to cope with the Christmas shopping rush and have lots of stock available, give good customer service etc!

they won't even make any efforts concerning HR4040 (CPSIA) in the US!

Biggestjokeever are you so right!

So, Rob got an Etsy paid trip to Switzerland, just like so many Etsy employees have been jetting around to craft shows all over the country to "represent the company" on, ahem, sellers' monthly bill payments. (Geez, talk about spending good money for bad service.)

I will say, Etsy certainly proves that they can be obnoxious no matter where they spend their money made from artisans who, THANKS TO ETSY, probably get LESS for their handmade goods than last year.

If Etsy survives another year, then we'll all be wearing cowl-necked-fingerless-gloves-opening-mini-snap-purses-to-pay-for-day-old-bread-at-the-food-bank-after-our-handmade-goods-are-devalued-by-a-site-that-loves-the-fact-that-they-have-chopped-handmade-prices-to-$15-a-pop! And PROUD of it!

Does Rob even have a passport? Or is he using a fake ID to go abroad, too?

One question that I have wanted to ask ETSY Admin now for some time is: what, exactly, are we paying you for?

Time and again, if their behavior is called into question, Admin pop up in forum threads to defend themselves.

Is reading the forums all they ever do? How many posts are there, and yet it never fails that they respond timely to some criticism (while avoiding legitimate questions about the way the site runs).

If my money is going to pay these people, why aren't they doing useful things: looking into resellers, working on a more effective search, advertising, etc. etc.

=====

From Oct 07 to Sept 08 the average sale price on etsy rose by 0.7% to $14.57. Inflation in June 07 was running (in the US) at 5.6%. In real terms people were getting a LOT less!

YAY at least Etsy is trying to do something concerning the CPSIA now.

I'll all for giving kudos too. So as much as I was disappointed before with their TOU response time-after-time over the CPSIA concerns, I am pleased that there has been some action now.

You kids are outta your MINDS! it is disclosed that i am both GetReadySetGo and AroundNBrightlyWound. who is Kella?
you've got yourselves on one crazy witch-hunt. have fun finding me in Brooklyn. i was born and raised in the suburbs of detroit MICHIGAN and now i live in FLORIDA with my husband and he teaches high school. i'm not going to put my city up because who knows what you people who have nothing better to do with your time might do to me. i work my heart out for my shop and i'm not making up where i'm from- buy something from me and see where it comes from. but wait, i probably am soooo bored that i would have my luggage shipped to my private workers in florida and then have them ship it to you from florida just to cover my tracks because afterall, i live in brooklyn, right? you guys have got me all kinds of figured out! your detective work is seriously flawed. and again i ask- who the heck is KELLA? i'm cracking up. and GirlAnnoyed, you said
"I don't begrudge any of them the publicity they get or the good opportunity."
you turn around only to stick your foot right in your mouth in the following paragraphs.
