More from the Auxiliary Guild

From one of our Readers recently:

As much as I hate the Dorque, I will take a look if something catches my eye on the front page scroll. Yes, there have been some helpful articles, but most of those are written by sellers, not staff. My personal feeling is that it is less about being helpful and informative and more about dispensing Kool Aid and helping out friends. I think it’s good idea gone completely wrong and should be abolished. Still I was pretty shocked to see them rehashing their old features under the guise “Best of Storque” That’s an oxymoron if I ever heard one. Any way part of tme thinks it may signal the end of the Storque , which I would cheer, another part of me thinks they have run out of ideas and friends to promote and are too lazy to look for more. It gives me one more thing to bitch about.

I’m Odd man out (even if I am a woman)

When taps are played for the Dorque, I might change my mind about a lot of things that went way off course on Etsy over the last 12 months.

While the retail calendar chugs onward, and Etsy is embroiled in problems of its own making by ignoring those pesky problems until they got too big, at least they can put an end to investing all those hours to writing trite, unreadable "articles" about things they like a lot. Show and tell got boring a long long time ago.

If you are blogging all day, then, really, do you get anything else done?

I personally feel that the Dorque has a place, they are just doing it badly.

They need to hire REAL WRITERS and EDITORS to run it. The kick everyone else in the pants if they go near it. Sure they can contribute time to time... i don't have a problem with that. But it's long since time to have a dedicated staff for the Dorque who's e sole purpose is quality not qauntity. To make it readble, enjoyable, not just a half assed attempt to out product the CRAFT blog.

The name of the blog is also proof positive that major site decisions never filter through a tier of upper management that is concerned with the overall message and readability of the site. Had that name passed over a professionals desk, it would have been questioned. What does the name say about Etsy? How will new readers interpret that name? Why is the matching logo a dodo not a stork? Why is it spelled wrong? Why choose a bird that is MUTE as a symbol for a blog? I mean this is just the ultimate boner in my opinion.

Am I the only one who doesn't venture into the Storque unless someone points out there is actually a decent article to read?

I agree with Cranky. There is a place for the Dorque but it really needs to be reworked. How much longer can they promote grade school level crafts and truly awful fashion (sorry, those neck brace things look idiotic no matter who wears them) just because it represents their own (and their friends) level of craft? I keep waiting for the tutorial on how to make a yarn octopus and loop and loom potholders.
Sigh... bottom line - it could be something really great and actually helpful. But it's not.

I only venture in when I hear that they've been moronic and offensive on my behalf as a Seller.

It's a total waste of time, imho.

impetuous is spot on re the name, branding et all. If memory serves it was Matt's idea to call it the Storque. I like a doobie as much as the next guy, but that name must have been thought up while riding a blue haze of BC Bud.

You're not the only one. I can't stand it. Oh maybe someday...but not now...

I've always disliked the Stroke, but never more so now, as they celebrate their first anniversary of tedious, masturbatory "articles".

The sooner the whole, bally lot of them are fired, the happier I'll be.

Holiday plan? Nope, but there are 12 new articles in Dorque today.

Site meltdown? Oh, there it is! a notice on Dorque several hours after the fact!

Etsy, you may be planting "official announcements" only ONLY ONLY on the Dorque to force us to read it, but we know what you're doing.

I still don't read it and the more you write for it the more you drive selers away and waste buyers time when THEY COULD BE SHOPPING!
