Back To Stripping...err School

Now, I know kids are dressing sexier these days, but the Etsy back to school showcase has been offering a little bit more than one would expect. Thanks to morrigan_etsy for uploading a screenshot to our flickr pool.

HaHa- Go Etsy! you've SO got it together.

(Was Maria out of the office again?)

I actually missed seeing that showcase, so I'm glad to see a screenshot.

What's next, have a Va Jay Jay christmas showcase?

How about happy Hooterween?

hey betty boop nips! think the seller has a license to sell betty boop made into pasties?

Amanda said...

hahahaha! wait, was that why the kids were looking at me funny today on the first day of school? are pasties NOT appropriate for school personnel to wear? i was just trying to fit in!

LOL amanda!

The back to school showcases have been a hodge podge of mistagged items among some very decent things.

It's a shame really.

Kids today.

Awww...did Maria already get fired and replaced by the former CEO of American Apparel?

it was an amazing site to see.

Maybe the pasties are for a 'finally 18' present...a little something to wear while you're signing the release papers for Girls Gone Wild?

I envision knitted jockstraps for Prom Season.

Let's not forget the pretty little spanky panties! LOL And here I was thinking corporal punishment wasn't allowed in school these days :)

Not everyone can qualify for scholarships, you know. ;-)

hahahahaha.

etsy is totally asleep at the wheel. What a freaking train wreck!!! I feel bad for all of those people who had very nice things in the showcase and those who weren't allowed to put lunchboxes/sacks in the showcase.

But you know, pasties are the "in" thing now!

And RobWhite locked the thread that went along with this for calling out. No comment on the content of the BTS Showcase, of course.

Until the showcases are reviewed or juried then this will continue to happen. Why would Etsy care? They have the pasties cash.
I seem to remember the Fathers day showcase being a little out there.
Maybe sellers should get a clue and realize that the showcase will have items that people pay to put there and there is NO monitoring currently going on.
It would be nice if the showcases were a true reflection of their title but that is not how it works right now.

RW probably saw that and was thinking "WTF! AWWW Shit, another etsy mess to clean up!!!"

not even the admin check out the showcasees anymore much less viable customers

its a 100% waste of space,money & time

Ah yes, Etsy...asleep at the wheel, out to lunch, on vacation permanently, on a break, off the wall, out of touch, without a clue, off their rockers, 2 cards short of a deck, missed the boat, be back in a few, lost in the sauce, and on a leave of absence.

When you don't care, it shows. I think pretty much puts the lid on the whole showcase idea, finally. They're old, tired, sloppy, are stuck in a theme fixation, and need to be replaced.

And, they are used as an excuse by Etsy (with this theme thing) to be their major marketing initiative on a site with tens of thousands of stores. One showcase per theme which excludes many more stores and products than it includes.

Each major holiday or retail selling event = one themed showcase? And they think this is offering promotional tools to sellers?

Showcases are so sexist. Why didn't they include this:

It gets cold at the bus stop, you know.

Priceless!

I saw those in a prev. showcase -- they were not Betty Boop tho -- the seller has a variety of copyrighted images on the nips.

So with that one-two booboo, I just rolled my eyes and went on. And then I thought -- well, back-to-school could be interpreted as college -- and there's sorority initiations, right? Pole dancing is all the hot thing the past 4-5 years!

3 cheers for etsy!

i guess kids these days have to dress sexy to get ahead.

One of my best friends is the mother to three girls. Her oldest girl (14) loves buying clothes on Etsy that fit her unique style.

When that page loaded in their house, with her father beside her helping her shop....he was LIVID. He understands that it is indeed the internet, and that Etsy is intended for an older audience, but he couldn't understand why there were pasties int he back to school showcase along side other kid friendly things.

No more Etsy shopping in their house.

Way to go Etsy!

urggggggh!

I'm the last person to support censorship...but I'll sure as hell advocate for common sense. There's got to be a reseller selling it somewhere on Etsy, can someone please find out and mail some to Etsy central?

When Showcase started out it was great! 7$ was a great price for a day of advertising. If you didn't make many sales, it was OK because it ws only 7$. As I remember, the Halloween Showcase last year was beautiful every day - all the sellers really did try and fit the theme. Now, nobody wants to pay (possibly loose) 15$ and the showcase is never full, and looks kinda sad no matter what's in it. They should revert back to 7$ for sure.

Ye gods.

I'm famous (sorta).

Does that mean I can do one of those EB avatar thingies now?

The Righteous One said...

This is too funny. I about pissed myself when I read this. True story, the prom queen from my high school actually is a stripper today.

A girl that graduated two years ahead of me in my tiny-ass high school is now a VERY famous porn star. She was extremely popular with the guys, even back then. Sweet girl, but totally slutty.

Her poor family disowned her when she got into porn, they were so embarrassed - it was a small town, after all. Population of 700, graduating class of 24.

Um, I don't know why I felt the need to mention this ...

Does anyone have the (tidycat) scoop on PDs mute?

Anonymous said...

i don't even know what to say. I wonder if someone on etsy staff took the fall for that..

The Disgruntled One said...

There is zero accountability there, no one takes a fall for anything.

Except maybe Chris and Haim.

I know this post and its comments are waning...but today (September 1st) I notice the Back-to-School Decorating Showcase has only 6 items, so etsy just made the photos HUGE to try to fill some space.

Also, one of the Back-to-School items is wall art, but it's shown over a baby crib in the photo. I saw that immediately after reading about Sarah Palin's pregnant 17-year-old daughter...

Nice chuckles for this morning...
