Hellooooo Maria!

I am reading emails and blogs to understand the needs and desires of people who sell on Etsy, who shop on Etsy, who browse Etsy, who love Etsy and who bash Etsy.

-Maria Thomas, Etsy C.O.O.

It makes us feel all warm 'n' fuzzy that EtsyBitch might be on your list of blogs to read. We'd like to bring your attention to our Manifesto to Maria if you haven't had a chance to read it yet.

We would also like to add that we are "people who sell on Etsy, who shop on Etsy, who browse Etsy, who love Etsy". We're also people who criticize, question, even complain about Etsy, Esty Admin, and various issues relating to Etsy. Please remember, the blog is Etsy Bitch not Bash.

It's also worthwhile to take moment to repost the last section of the Manifesto here:
Contrary to popular thought, we do care about Etsy very, very much. We do believe in professionalism from the people we are paying money to. Many of our postings are dripping in sarcasm and frustration, but only because we’ve been pushed that far. There are those of us who are fed up and have no where else to go, and then there are those of us who have great ideas and wish we had a platform to express our thoughts. EtsyBitch is our platform.

You may wonder why we are anonymous. Well, we’ve seen many people punished on Etsy for things done off Etsy. It makes us wary, and unless there’s a personal guarantee, signed by Rob Kalin himself, notarized and copied in triplicate, we’re not going to reveal ourselves.

We're looking forward to see the badly needed changes at Etsy, thank you.

I really wish she hadn't used the word 'bash'. I could care less if I'm considered a basher, that's not the point. It basically says that those who criticise must be against Etsy.....which is not the case at all.
I love what Etsy was going to be. I hope Maria can get it there because Rokali sure as hell couldn't. I wish he'd handed over to a decent leader long ago and perhaps there would be more follow-through from Admin, especially on a customer service level.

Maria, if you're reading this, you're most certainly a welcome addition. I hope you can pull Etsy together quickly and make it the site it set out to be.

Also, could you muzzle some of your staff until they are trained. For starters, Daniellexo should have zero contact with members, forum and convos.

It would be really nice if Etsy could get it together and become a respected handmade site before the site's reputation is completely trashed in the arts and crafts world.

Unfortunately a LOT of things would have to change before that happened.

did they rewrite the article and take out the bash part? can't find it.

The word bash is still there, frankie.

I just wanted to say that the manifesto is an amazing piece of work! Bravo.

I think Maria understands online business- that's a good thing.

She definitely has her hands full with what, and who, she has to work with.

I wonder if her presence is less about the indie handmade movement, and more about business of getting things in order for maximum profits, and value, when selling.

oh there it is. how could i miss that : /

I have no doubt that she is about the business aspect of Etsy and not the handmade ethos. 'Course, she has to project an image of genuinely caring about "helping people make a living making things."

Re: "bash"
I think way too much attention is being given to one word.

Welcome to Etsy, Maria. We'll spend hours discussing and dissecting your one word choice.
It might even seem like we're bashing you a bit.

Lurker, you're on a roll today.

Isn't it dumbfounding to think that your blog, that is relatively young, may have been read by the CO of a major company to gain insight?

You have an incredible platform here to prod change!

Use your powers wisely. :P

AND, Jodie, I totally agree about Daniellexo. Her every post makes me cringe. "Awesome idea!" gag.

They should demote her to being a flagged-item checker. She should have no posting abilities whatsoever.

i'm not over-fond of 'bash' either - it suggests to me that this is the language used back shop when etsy is talking about its customers. unfortunately this kind of speaking eventually leaks out front of shop. i'm just waiting for 'grumpy hater' to reappear.

i'm also in favour of a certain amount of professional muzzling. how professional is it to have admin leaving comments on the stroq blog for example, especially when they are generally 'hoorah' and 'rah rah'? you can slap each otehrs backs in private about a job well done (?) but please leave the public channels open to your customers for discourse.

THE ETSY BASH

I was posting in the forums late one night
When my eyes beheld a disgusting sight
Daniellexo posting like a teen
And suddenly I felt mean

I did the BASH
I did the Etsy bash
The Etsy bash
It was a snark-filled smash
I did the bash
It caught on in a flash
We did the bash
We did the Etsy bash

From the Storque all filled with fluff
To Gift Guides, filled with Admin's stuff
The dissatisfied came out of their shop
To tell Admin. to make the crap stop

They did the BASH
They did the Etsy bash
The Etsy bash
It was a snark-filled smash
They did the bash
It caught on in a flash
They did the bash
They did the Etsy bash

The Admins were just having fun
The party had just begun
They were eating cupcakes
and creating puns

Customers were not pleased with their frolic and play
Many shop owners shouted and some did not stay
The cheerleaders were beginning to yell
"Leave Admin alone and YOU go to hell"

Leaving his PlayStation, Rokali finally appeared
"Don't worry" he said "we'll get everything cleared"
He opened a box and swimmy swam out
Then thick frosted cupcakes were thrown about

They did the BASH
They did the Etsy bash
The Etsy bash
It was a snark-filled smash
They did the bash
It caught on in a flash
They did the bash
They did the Etsy bash
