More flagellation

Flaggin on Etsy is like throwing the trash in an open can, but it never gets picked up...

My new idea, which I believe I shared in the other thread, is to collect the items you have flagged in the past and that still remain on Etsy and make treasuries of them. Name the treasuries "Flagged" or something.

This might be the fastest way to draw attention to the items.

(or to get banned)

To punish a copier
Don't punch him in the face.

In the balls. Where it hurts.

Thread dynamics
To anyone thinking of starting another copycat thread, this is what happens. People's blood pressure rises, pages upon pages of wonton debauchery ensues, it's not very pretty. Mainly, it serves little purpose than to stir up some drama.

Admin loves drama. And cupcakes. But make sure it's all out of the fora.

If you were quoted, congratulations and thanks! You can find your

I'm going to start making flagged treasuries just so I can make a contribution to the front page.

Ok, I suggest that anyone successfully making a "Flagged" treasury needs to email us and/or post a comment as soon as it's made. We'll promote the daylights out of it. ;)

I tried this. Created a ClosedThreads Etsy account and made a beautiful treasury that even had a Playstation 3! My account was closed and the treasury was taken down within a half hour.

Yet the other sock puppets are allowed to stay somehow....

Flagged treasury:

Best. Idea. Ever.

I definitely want to see screenshots and know how long it stays up!

Closedthreads, it seems it would be the name of your account that did it. I wonder how well Etsy 'regulars' will fare.

my favorite comment this week is my dangerousmezzo. What she said really hit home with me.

I don't buy the "community" thing, anymore, either. I used to -- I used to be a very keen member of the "community", but after over a year of this I'm pretty much tired of being asked to do Etsy's job, while Etsy hires people to run craft nights and make videos.

I so hate treasuries these days but I love this idea. It makes me want to go make one TONIGHT!

I'd definitely try it with my regular Etsy name - if Admin even notice its because they somehow found out who is really behind ClosedThreads.

Making a treasuries of flagged items is the greatest idea I have seen so far on this blog. I would make one in a heartbeat but I am so poor I am not prepared to be banned by Etsy yet. They are trying to figure out how to ban me as I write this. I even asked RK to ban me back in the Etsy 5 era, I told him I could use the publicity to my advantage since they refuse to advertise for buyers. I have been a leader of a well known on Etsy street team for over a year. 350 members. many of the original members are long gone, and they were life long accomplished artists, now the folks who are joining are baby beginner crafters and the team is taking on the flavor of neo-Stepford wives, in a cult sorority. I am on strike this week from the weekly team thread because it is making me ill.

The Storque now wants all of us to create chain links in our shops. Another really stupid idea, a total waste of time and I am sure they think it is as brilliant as the Milky Way.

Etsy admin will waste our time over and over again rather than advertise, the only thing they really need to do on the long list of what needs to happen in order to avoid the ship sinking completely. It is sinking right now and we are supposed to be the bucket brigade.

My team is busy forming up a committee to participate in this latest BS. I can't bring myself to rain on their committee parade. So I am not commenting on the team thread about anything right now. I am really pissed off at Etsy, nothing new, it has been 18 months of being pissed off. Last night I was looking for Alanis Morrisette's song, on youtube, the Pollyanna Flower song for my nest treasury, not available. .

Peacekeeper...I would love to know who you are and what team you speak of, just for my own curiousity! lol.

But I am getting fed up with the "we don't need big bad business meanie advertising" bullshit attitude on the etsy forums as well. VBJ started this thread yesterday

http://tinyurl.com/6gdjtf

to which there was this boneheaded reply:

"I'm not sure I understand why Etsy *needs* Adwords...Advertising is always expensive and risky"

From someone who has been on etsy for 15 months with 4 sales.

As long as etsy is seen as a play ground and not as an ecommerce site then assinine attitudes like this are going to prevail.

Heather,

Thank you for pointing out that thread and that quote.

Truly the mind boggles at the pearls of wisdom dispensed by someone who has sold so much. ;)

I'll quit my street team before I do that chain thing. Just what I need to do, give the buyers I've directed to Etsy yet another way to leave my shop.

I'm sure sometime in the next couple days someone will bring it up to the group and it'll be a condition for membership, hence my leaving. I'm perfectly willing to do group advertising outside of Etsy to draw people in and hope that one or two pick me, I'm not going to draw them in and have them immediately drawn away. We are trying to make money, not form a blog roll.

lessa - what's the street team chain thing? I admit I was on a street team but totally sucked on it.

This is why I'm on my DH ALL.THE.TIME. to get my own site started. Because I'm not spending a damn cent for advertising for etsy, when I don't have stats to see if that advertising is working. I might as well take a bunch of bills and throw them into a fan and watch them scatter, you know? And all the dipshits who say we don't need stats, we don't need advertising ("it's risky!!!11elevenety!!!") with their 5 sales who are happy making rainbow cupcakes...argh. They just piss me off.

I need to forums less and bitch more :)

Thing is...I'm a jewelry seller in a totally saturated category, and I do well. One CAN be successful with the right tools. Etsy doesn't want to give us the right tools, and most people there are too stupid to realise that they can also be successful - but they think "oh, there's a million necklaces for sale, no one will find me, let's sew a hammock!"

Heather,

Its the thing Peacekeeper referenced. I checked out the Storque article, (search 'chain' and you'll find it), and they are recommending we use the live links that we can now put in our shops to form a street team chain.

Ex: Hi, I'm a member of Esty Loves Cupcakes, to see more work from Etsy Loves Cupcakes check out 'link to other seller'.

The next person in the chain links to the next shop in the team, and so on and so on. Like a blog roll.
