What we're watching

Coming this Summer to ANCBSC, Etsy Legal, the story of one man, one fish, swimming for a dream of world domination. Making it all possible is his cracked up team of legal advisors – Etsy Legal.

You’ll follow them on their journey as they fight for the writ of habeas fuck yous, dealing out their brand of justice and leaving a path of committed sellers with nowhere to turn.

They’re rich, they’re uneducated, they’re hipsters.

With special appearances by Martha Stewart! Hello Kitty! and many many more.

Check your local programming for time and channel, or else.

I wonder what would happen if one of these shut-down legit sellers took Etsy to court?

Love it! It reminded me to create pdfs of all of my Etsy listings in case I'm served with a writ of habeas FU and have to start again somewhere else. Thanks. That task is now done.

I hope a network picks it up.

Be sure to catch your reruns too! I can never get enough of watching Ruffeoheartslilsnoty getting his shitty sewing technique exposed on the Martha Stewart show.

BTW I was browsing Etsy's new front page and clicked on the treasury link. It's fine, but it's an exact copy of what Bonanzle has been doing for a while. I notice that almost all of the changes they have been making in the past year or so have been things that they copied from other handmade venues.

I think it's ironic that the very site that was first to cash in on the handmade movement...hell...they originated it...has now come to a point where they have resorted to copying others just to keep up. There was a time when people said "That site is just hoping to be another Etsy. They're just copying the original." but now it looks like Etsy is the ones having to copy the originality of others.

Ironic.

But then again, they're hipsters. Irony IS their thing after all. ;o)

The new front page, which is nothing new, is just another trick on a site that lacks both creativity and scalability. The problem isn't what Etsy copies from other sites, its that nothing has changed in 5+ years and Etsy set a very bad pattern that keeps repeating everywhere else. The sites pick their favorites for their front pages while recruiting more sellers with the message that anyone can sell anything, just slap a cheap price on it. The more sellers that set up, the fewer that sell.

Can't anyone come up with a better format? Oh, I forgot! Most of the sites know nothing about making and selling handmade because they've never done it themselves!

I don't know what the answer is to the Front Page dilemma. Honestly, I like Artfire but their front page usually looks like crap.
