What happened to the GG shutdown?

*sigh* Etsy Etsy Etsy...

This is what Rokali said:

...we'll be shutting down the gift guides in early January. (We'll shut them down in phases, at first leaving them on the site without linking to them anywhere, so any existing links still work.)

This is what Etsy's done: the GG button is no longer on the top menu of every page, but they are still linked from the Buy page and, guess what, there's a new Valentine's Day gift guide!

So, if they're being phased out, why the paid employee time to put up new ones?! Meanwhile it takes weeks of flagging to get resellers and blatant mistaggers taken down and corrected, threads asking for admin help go ignored, and the Paypal integration bug is still not fixed.

Come on Rob, you know we're watching, why not reign in the troops and do the few things you've stated outright as goals? I mean, if they can add a GG to the defunct GG page, they sure as hell can remove the link from the Buy page. If you're trying to find busy work, I suggest getting to work on the list of things sellers want in the OP of this thread in the forums (some of which we talked to you about!!). And if the current employees you have can't do these things, I suggest getting the customer support number up and running with them manning the phones, put them on forum duty, or just replace them with employees that have the necessary skill sets (It's called running a business).

I suspect they can't get this done because I don't think everyone is on the same page. Someone probably made a Valentine's gift guide and slapped it up there not knowing Rob's intentions. If Rob is truly back at the helm he needs to act like it and communicate...at the very least refrain from making promises that he can't keep!

On a side note...what is up with the Homer and Gomerette pictures for the featured sellers? Is the new thing now to pose with your husband in greasy hair and plaid unironed shirts, while sporting stupid glasses with no lenses...oh, and a stoned look....

Yeah, the funny thing is that I saw a forum thread about the NEW!!! Valentine's Day gift guide which was started by an etsian who just last month was telling us that there was no such thing as front page favoritism.

Hypocrisy is always hilarious.
Of course, this new Gift Guide does totally encompass all the items I have already seen in every Valentine's article by Etsy staff and every Valentine's themed treasury curated by etsy staff... so, you know, how handy of them to conglomerate their Valentine's favorites in one place, as a new edition to a feature that was allegedly going to be phased out...

I have no faith in the vast majority of the etsy employees at this point, but a little consistency would be nice.

I understand the purpose of the gift guides, from a retail standpoint. They ought to be a useful tool. However, they have been nothing but a beacon of favoritism and childishness on behalf of the etsy staff... so, I'd like to see them gone.

If only their staff wasn't so unprofessional... because if not for that, then I probably wouldn't care.

Why would Rob start doing what he says he is going to do now?

Oh so he left for a year- and our memories were erased? He never has done what he says by and large in the past, and this is just the beginning of his next round of big talk no action.

At least those insipid graphics are off the log-in page.

And palomasnest is in it! Just like every other Gift Guide and every other front page!

I say, eliminate the Gift Guides and the Treasuries, whoever curated them, and let the FP be selected at random with an algorithm to screen out repeats by seller until every other seller has had something featured. Or just run the "Recently Listed" scroll across the whole FP.

And get rid of tags.

And the forum.

And fire 2/3 of Admin.

I love that there are 2 finger print necklace sellers in the same valentines day gift guide. One a featured seller, one a seller who's piece is $50 less.(or vice verser)

NICE!

Rob needs to get tough and act like he's in business instead of playing. He needs to act like a CEO and evaluate his employees-- and hold them accountable.

Or get the hell out of our business. He cares more about his hipster doofus buddies than he cares about the thousands of people who rely on Etsy as a business. We are serious, when will he start to think seriously?

You can't stay a kid forever; you can't be oblivious forever. Get acquainted with reality.

I read this post and decided to actually look at the showcases. Well, needless to say, they are awful! It makes me understand more and more why I have never graced the front page, or been "chosen" for anything by any of them. After seeing what I saw, I don't EVER want to be there. A useful tool they are not! They are an embarassment!

2 guitar picks as well? Next to each other.
Rob is making it harder and harder to believe he could actually run a business, any business. Ever.

Do you follow Rob on twitter? He's on the other side of the country. He's bored with etsy. Not the money part, but the "running" it part.

And by the way, does anyone think the investors care how it's run if it's making lots of money?

Etsy is a business and might as well sell "copy" machines.

They are not a useful tool as they don't reflect the great diversity on etsy - they reflect the 2 or 3 people that pick the FP etc.

What is the point of making statements that you are not going to follow through on? So it's Feb., and the gift guides aren't gone - no explanation. Personally I think the gift guides could work well if they were curated by a larger group of employees that would hopefully reflect a wider range of tastes. But right now they do not and probably will not....

It is extremely frustrating to hear of sellers that have been featured hundreds of times while others languish with no recognition. That's a lot of free advertising for the chosen few while the rest of us have to "make our picture better, go on the forums, twitter, etc. etc." as if that will change anything at all.

Apparently HeyMIchelle answered on this page: http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6425874&page=9#post-47264540

I suppose it makes sense if it hasn't been taken completely away and people are finding it, that they keep it somewhat current. But why isn't it gone by now? How many phases does it take to get rid of a gift guide? probably as many licks as it takes to get to the center of a tootsie pop.

I guess no one else noticed but there's also a new February Amethyst Birthstone guide as well.

Now this really sucks because at least before we could nominate ourselves and others to have a chance to be included in the guide. Now we have no chance at all!! The gift guides are there, but our hopes of being included in one is gone.

Nice going etsy. Guess you really heard us! And thanks for pushing the payed showcase spot in my face while you continue to promote others in the gift guide for free!

pop, yes, it does appear to be gone from the Buy page!

Rokali also popped into the forum thread (on pg 114) we've linked in this post as a place to obtain the list of seller requests.
