Etsy's 3, She's been in a month...

Rome is burning, Maria. Maybe it's time to address the citizens? Or do we need to devise a evacuation plan on our own?

Haha.
Somehow I don't think Etsy wants the avaerage customer/seller to know that their "indie cred" is gone and that they have a COO.

Nothing like a visual to drive the point home!

SuperFragalistic-Kudos on the Maria graphic!! : )

this is the most hilarious place in all of the internet tubes ;0

Love the graphic!

I'll bet she quit already. I took a job once that seemed perfect. I took a couple weeks off before I started to clear my head. After working there two days I realized the owners and employees were crazy and I quit.

No I don't expect her on the forums that's for damn sure... in fact if she did hang on the forums I'd be upset.

But would a "letter to the members" sent via email saying what she's put on the fast track, and acknowledge it's been a tought month with all of us crying out for change, that we've been heard.

Nice graphic design!!!

Any chance you could make a Storque (Stork, Storck, whatever it is...) look like a Stork and not a Dodo?

Or maybe etsy's point with that one is you are what you read.... ;p

Any COO worth their salt does an introductory letter, maps out a plan with a few key points . Let's the masses know what her prorities are.

That is assuming she's really there and running the show.

I'd just like to have seen an introductory statement from her with some indication of her ideas about the direction Etsy should take.

But maybe she's taken a look around and is left speechless by the chaos.

Maria has no background in the arts, handmade crafts or vintage that appears in her online bios. My first job out of college was working for a VP Finance of a small corporation (what else can you do with a Liberal Arts degree?) that was about to be sold. My snarky senses tell me Maria is on board to preside over the buyout of Etsy or some such.

If that is so, I wouldn't expect her to send the Etsy community a chatty intro email about how she totally relates to buying handmade, saving the earth, and/or letting creative and talented people support themselves with a serious home-based business. That's not what Etsy is about at this point in time, is it?

PS: I totally heart the weird semi-words that the verifier comes up with...sounds like an exotic language from an alien world. A lot of the wordlets sound like they would describe fascinating sex acts...I should record them in a blogspot kama sutra!

Does anyone else smell cookies? I think Martha Stewart is behind all of this!

It is just kind of bizarre that we got a start date, would be told we'd hear more and then poof!

I have to wonder, did she:

Quit?

Get kidnapped wherever she went vacationing?

Take the job as a paycheck til retirement and is spending her days golfing?

Or is she step 1 in the buyout and we won't hear from her til the details are ironed out?

How do you solve a problem like Etsy, Maria?

Anonymous said...

Nice one, Meringue!

Personally, I would welcome our new buyout overlords. I mean, how much worse can it get?

*goes back to working on my own website*

No indie cred means no more mustachioed dry ice cupcakes. :(

Hmm, would overlords be better than what Etsy has now?

Stella says Maria does exist....

There's some urban legend about Queen Victoria being lead over the Thames, looking down and seeing paper floating in the sewage that drained into the river. When she asked what it was, some intrepid court advisor replied "they all say 'God Save the Queen' Your Majesty"
Personally, I wonder if something similar isn't happening with the new COO.

Sure, Maria exists.

The question I would have for Etsy is what is the relationship between an ultra-establishment globalist with political overtones bean counter and an indie handmade venue?

Ha, I just remembered why people were always looking for Carmen Sandiego. I suppose any similarity etc etc etc is purely coincidental.

Can you imagine being a serious professional and then being introduced to the Wonderful World Of Etsy where unicorns, magic ponies and cupcakes with mustaches rule the day? And YOU are expected to somehow make sense of it all and make it work in real time?

I think Maria is getting some meds adjusted for the sheer challenge of it all...

SIDE QUESTION: Where has Matt been these months? Does he still work there, or did he run for the hills?

eclipse said...

Matt's only been gone a short time- the last few "Chatt with Matts" have been with Mary or other staff. But he hasn't been gone for months, more like a couple weeks. It's summer, he could be on vacation or traveling for Etsy work. His absence is always noticeable though- crazy stuff starts happening. Is he like the only sensible one in management?

Anonymous said...

Eclipse, Matt is the only one (IMO) who isn't high on unicorn farts at this point.

It must be awful to go on vacation and dread coming back to some new disaster. Like "please don't burn down the office while I'm gone". When you're the only competent one you're always afraid of what the others are going to screw up in your absence.
I hope they are giving him some good stock options.

Matt is like the calming force that Reagan was with the locusts in one of the Exorcist movies.

I think when Maria first started she did some picks for an article in the Storque or something, right? And it was all vintage stuff, which was a little surprising to say the least. It was right when all the shit was erupting over the new search, so it seemed like a message of hope to the V&S community.

That's the only message I'm aware of--now we can try to decipher it like tea leaves.
