Etsy Paypal Issues Persist

It's been a bit over 2 months now, and the Etsy Paypal issues are still ongoing.

Etsy's probably been too busy playing hot wheels on their road map and coloring outside the lines to fix it. Or maybe they've implemented Paypal Express Checkout already and just haven't told us. You never know with those rascals.

But, hey, it's only a random inability to sell items on the site, so they shouldn't be too concerned.

Oh wait, Etsy is an ecommerce site with a mission statement to "help people make a living making things". Huh...never would've guessed that.

At least the search problems don't matter since people aren't getting paid anyway.

By the way, the work around for payment is to either send an invoice (if you're the seller) or via your Paypal account, "Send Money" to the seller's email address in the Etsy transaction email (if you're the buyer).

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum

The Etsy header became all confuzzled. And the glaring neon of the new font led me to a dark place called the Storque...

where Rokali has provided a roadmap of what Etsy is certain it can accomplish in the next 2 months.

The first thing on that map was rolled out today to much fanfare chagrin - the wider page and new Etsy header with teeny tiny font. Yes, it is less distracting from the shopfronts, but the lack of testing prior to roll out is, well, what we would expect.

Let's see how well the switch to Paypal Express Checkout goes:

we’re going to require payment for an item before marking it as sold on Etsy. To do this, we’re migrating to a new payments platform at PayPal called Express Checkout (EC).

The biggest change is that a buyer will go to PayPal and authorize the payment, then come back to Etsy in order to actually complete the transaction. ...

Our ideal Checkout is to have a single payment cover all purchases, even those from multiple sellers. This is on the horizon, as PayPal readies their split payments feature for Express Checkout.

There's also the pesky detail of it being integrated properly on Etsy's end. Oh the adventures we're about to have *sigh*

Another Etsy Paypal Bug

Since Etsy won't email its members about the problem, I wanted to make sure you all know about it.

Paypal payments are going to the wrong sellers in some instances

Etsy's solution thus far:

Other users have been able to work around this issue by communicating with their buyers, the other sellers, and working out separate Paypal payments.
Yep, because what Etsy does best for its sellers is making their businesses more difficult to run.

I'll try to find a way to get you all bandaids after you finish banging your heads against the wall. Giant knitted bandaids with owls and mustaches.

Hey Etsy

Remember when all sellers pretty damn unanimously cried out NOOOOO to you guys when bandied the idea of an In-House Payment System?

Yeah, we didn't think you did since you're now looking to hire a programmer to do that very thing.

To quote many from that long ago thread "DO NOT WANT!"

Etsy/Paypal Bug

Have a rash of non-paying buyers? Finding that Paypal isn't working for your buyers? Have the no money for your items and stuck waiting blues?

Yeah, it's an Etsy bug with their connection to Paypal that appears to have been occurring for more than a week.

The way around it so far is to send the buyers invoices through Paypal (it's not a Paypal issue evidently), but be sure to explain the issue because they may think they already paid due to the lack of an error message appearing.

Admin know it's going on, but they haven't done anything about it or said anything other than to ask for more specifics. Because, as we all know, it doesn't matter how many individual and specific stories are given in a thread, admin wants to make their own damn thread! And then ignore you.

Paying Debts Shouldn't Be So Hard

Surprise, surprise - a glitch

If you go to pay your Etsy bill and get a decline notice, check with your credit card/bank before attempting to pay again! Several users have reported double payments to Etsy because the decline notice Etsy gave them in billpay WAS NOT ACCURATE. The payments went through.

I personally agree with Ozarknana:

HHHMMMM, think I'll wait to pay mine until this bug gets worked out....bet they
jump on this one if they want to get paid this month!

Anyone remember the double billing fiasco when billpay was finally reinstated last year? And the lack of an autobilling feature that people thought was being used, but their bills weren't being paid so they had hundreds they owed Etsy when the new late system came into effect in January?

Yeah...good times.

Since there are no late fees and they don't prevent listing unless you're 2 months late, there's no penalty for waiting until the bug is fixed. Don't chance paying Etsy too much, it's your time wasted to call the credit card company and get your money back. Also, who knows if Etsy will register the payment even if they have the money. And we all know what it's like to deal with their 'customer service' reps.

Etsy seller: "I paid my bill, here's the confirmation number my CC company gave me."
Support: "What about shiny things?"
ES: "No, I said I paid my bill already. But the page says I didn't."
Support: "Oh, well that's because the card was declined."
ES: "But my CC company says they paid you."
Support: "They're lying."
ES: "What?"
Support: "Your bill is late."
ES: "IT'S NOT LATE!"
Support: "Yes it is. Did you try clearing your cache before calling your bank?"
ES: "WTF?!"
Support: "Don't get snippy with me. Here, have a cupcake"
ES: "I don't want a fucking cupcake. I don't want fucking shiny things. I want the system to register the money I gave you."
Support: "Your bill is late. mmm cupcakes nomnomnom"

1 Million Etsy Members!

Revolving Dork announced that Etsy had it's one millionth registration.

One million members and *SIXTY* employees - and still no seamless payment method.

How the hell does a internet business based on sales of goods NOT have a seamless payment option? I'm not talking that abhorrent notion of a in House Payment system they came up with on a ego-driven bender. I'm talking about Paypal.

Thousands of online stores with far less then *60* employees have managed to get it to work. Granted, Etsy has 100's of thousands of stores BUT you can redesign the PROCESS to be more obvious and idiot proof.

Instead Etsy seems to be content to rely on Etsy users making videos, Flickr photo sets and having written instructions saved to simply help their customers make a purchase.

(Raise your hand if you've had to call a customer to process their sale *for them* on paypal because it as too difficult for them. :::raises hand:::)

Hint to Etsy: If there are a half dozen third party sites offering options that your site does not, dissemenate news, one stop info, logging the stuff you would rather be erased as well as calling attention to your bullshit - you are doing it wrong.

If your site was designed right from the beginning there would be no need for tutorials, wikis, or other sites.
